Upgrade WordPad's Word Processing Engine

Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, and 2000

The latest version of the WordPad word processing engine is version 3.0 contained in file RICHED20.DLL. You can download RICHED20.DLL from the DllDump.com web site.

Place file RICHED20.DLL in the Jarte program folder (usually C:\Program Files\Jarte). Alternatively, you can place the file in folder C:\Windows\System.

Note: You will not have access to Jarte features which require WordPad engine version 4.1 or higher (e.g., inserting hyperlinks or inserting tables) since WordPad engine 4.1 does not work on older versions of Windows.

Windows XP, Vista, and 7

The WordPad word processing engine version 4.1 is contained in file MSFTEDIT.DLL. You can download MSFTEDIT.DLL from the DllDump.com web site.

Place file MSFTEDIT.DLL in the Jarte program folder (usually C:\Program Files\Jarte). Alternatively, you can place the file in folder C:\Windows\System32.

Windows 8 and above

The WordPad word processing engine version 8.0 is contained in file MSFTEDIT.DLL. At the time of this writing MSFTEDIT.DLL is unavailable for download on the Internet.

What WordPad Engine Version Does My Computer Have?

You can determine the version of the WordPad word processing engine your computer uses by clicking the System Information button on Jarte's About panel. The second to last line of the system information shows the engine name and version number.
